FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you press one off records?
All of our records are individually lathe-cut in real-time, not pressed by a stamper. We specialise in providing premium one-off custom cut vinyl records. If you are after 10 or more records then getting a run of vinyl pressed might be a better option for you.
What is a lathe cut record?
A lathe cut record is cut one at a time. A diamond stylus carves the audio groove directly into a blank disc, the same way a master disc is cut before it goes off to become a stamper to get pressed. At G.C.M.R. there is no pressing and no stamper. Every record we make is its own master cut, made from your audio and each made to order.

Can I use my own artwork?

Do I need to provide music?
Not unless you have Original Music to upload, we will purchase your playlist music and cut it onto your custom vinyl. If you do have originals to upload, make sure they are the best quality that you can obtain (we prefer WAV / FLAC) but can work with other formats.
How long can my playlists be?
All records have strict time limits to ensure the best quality and the best volume. Those grooves take up real-estate and the louder they are the more space they demand.
12" Custom Vinyl Record - 17 mins max per side
10" Custom Vinyl Record - 12 mins max per side
7" Custom Vinyl Record - 4½ mins max per side
Can you cut overtime if my playlist is too long (> 17 mins)?
No, sorry we can't push the 17 mins per side on a 12" record limit. You will have to either trim your tracks or find alternative (radio edit) versions that tend to be shorter than the album version.
Should I order my playlist in a certain way?
Ideally yes! A soft love song at the start of the record and a loud party song at the end isn't going to make the best record possible. Always try to put your loudest / brightest tracks first, and leave soft, older or more vocal / acoustic songs last.
Do I need to prepare my original audio for vinyl?
No. You don't need to re-master, EQ or process your music to make it "vinyl ready". Send us your stream ready audio as it is.
If you'd like to go the extra mile, keep an eye on the intensity of the high frequencies. Harsh or very bright highs are the most common cause of sibilance (sharp "s" and "t" sounds) on a record.
Don't lathe cut records only last a few plays?
That's true of acetate (lacquer) records, which are cut into a soft, pliable material. Our records are cut into hard plastic, which is durable and made for repeated play just like a pressed record.
